Daelim VJF250 Oil Change Guide

By | March 28, 2015

Rachelle has a Daelim VJF250 which was due for an oil change. There isn’t much information on the internet about doing an oil change, so I grabbed the service manual and proceeded to take some photos along the way to make it easier for you to change the oil on your Daelim VJF250.

Tools / Things Needed

  • Needle Nose Pliers (to grab the oil filter screen)
  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • 8mm Socket
  • 17mm Socket
  • 24mm Socket
  • Breaker Bar (maybe)
  • Oil Filter (part: 15412-BA8-0010)
  • 2L Oil (10w-40)
  • Oil Pan / Funnel

Place the bike on the center stand, make sure it’s in neutral and warm the bike up for ~5 minutes. Once warmed up (and turned off), remove the oil filter maintenance cover (the part of the fairing covering the oil filter cover) which involves removing the 2 screws.

Place the oil drain pan under the bike and remove the sump plug (17mm LHS of crank case), and the oil drain cap (24mm RHS of crank case), make sure not to lose the crush washer on the sump plug.

Once all the oil is drained, remove the oil filter screen from where you removed the drain plug cap. I used the needle nose pliers to gently hold it to pull it out. Then washed it with water, and sat it in the sun to dry.

Once all the oil is drained, remove the oil filter cover by removing the 5 x 8mm bolts. Be careful as some oil runs down and sits on the belly pan. Place the bolts down in the same way they’re removed as they are all different.

Inspect the oil seal on the oil filter cover to make sure it is in good condition.

Remove the oil filter (be careful not to remove the spring), clean any old oil out, then install the new oil filter. The torque specs for the bolts are 1.1 kgf·m (11 N·m), however I just did them up until they were tight, then turned it a tiny bit more as I didn’t want to break the bolts.

Install the oil filter screen, spring, and oil drain cap. Install the oil sump plug and crush washer. Torque specs say 1.5 kgf·m (15 N·m) however again, I just did them up tight.

I then filled the bike up with around 1.2L of oil, replaced the oil cap and warmed the bike up. Checked the oil level and topped up up until right. The service manual says for an oil + filter change you will need 1.35L of oil. They were spot-on.

Congratulations, you’ve performed a basic service on your Daelim VJF250! Happy riding.
