One of the major issues (besides not defaulting to most recent in the News Feed) about the Facebook application on Android is that it can take up too many resources, especially on older phones with limited space. This could be why Facebook released Facebook Lite, a slimmed down version of its application aimed at developing markets.
I don’t believe that is has officially been announced yet, which would be the reason why Facebook Lite has only reached between 10,000 and 50,000 installs since January 20 when it launched on Google Play as version 126.96.36.199.0.
Facebook Lite is only available officially in a handful of countries – Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. However since I’ve uploaded a copy to Google Drive, there’s other ways to download the APK file.
The actual APK weighs in at 252KB, which is tiny compared to the original Facebook application. So if you’re using an older device, a slower network, or just want a no frills version of Facebook (think 0.facebook.com), Facebook Lite is more than likely you’re jackpot.
