Speed up the iPhone 3G and 3Gs

I take no responsibility if you destroy your phone, it explodes or your arm falls off.

I recently upgraded my iPhone 3G to 3.1.2 and JailBroke it. So I decided to try the experiments to speed up the iPhone by removing language packs and disabling launch daemons. The iPhone seems more snappier since doing this, read more to see the full story.

iPhone OS 3.0

Well last night I decided to bite the bullet and download iPhone OS 3.0 from The Pirate Bay. Technically what I did was piracy I guess as it’s the Gold Master sent to developers and not the one that is released to the general public.

Update: Version 3.0 of the firmware has officially been released, read more for the links to the firmware.

iPhone 3.0 – No jailbreak needed?

Well it seems Apple are working hard on their iPhone 3.0 OS. They have recently released the beta version, and will be releasing the final version around June/July. Now the new features included in iPhone 3.0 OS will have yourself asking “Do I need to jailbreak”.

For me, the reason to jailbreak is for SwirlyMMS to send MMS’, and PdaNet to allow tethering so I can use the phone as a modem. But the new version of iPhone 3.0 has these features already.

Amongst MMS and tethering, the new firmware will also feature:

  • Landscape keyboard for all applications including Mail.
  • Spotlight which allows you to search basically anything on your iPhone.
  • Voice Memo which allows you to record notes and reminders.
  • Phishing protection and auto-fill of forms.
  • Cut, copy and paste.

Now looking at all the features of the new firmware, I can only see three reasona to Jailbreak and that would be for SBSettings, Cycorder and theme support via Winterboard.

What are your thoughts on this?

iLove my iPhone

Well, as everyone would know, I used to be very anti-apple, and touted the iPhone as a devil phone. But since I bought one, my judgement has changed, and it really is quite a nice device.

The first thing I did when I got the iPhone, was JailBreak it with QuickPwn. This allows you to run 3rd party applications on the iPhone. If your thinking about doing it, I would highly suggest it.

After JailBreaking your iPhone I would suggest installing the following applications, you may or may not like them, but I sure do. :-)

1. AppShare and Installous (Homepage)

AppShare is like a version of the AppStore, but cracked so software is free. Installous allows you to download / install ipa files directly from Safari.

2. BeeJive IM (Homepage)

BeeJive IM is basically an "All-In-One" instant messaging client, which allows you to connect to multiple protocols (MSN, Yahoo!, AIM) e.t.c.
